Recently Lon Lodges hosted a fundraising Wildlife Walk Day and we are so pleased to announce that we raised over £300 on the day and have since had more donations from local supporters. Barclays Bank employee, Patricia Lewis, helped and has secured match funding to boost the final figure, which at present stands at £530, which will be split between the Wales Air Ambulance and the Rhayader branch of Cancer Research Campaign. Thank you to everyone that helped.
The sun shone and the birds sang and the day was set to be a wonderful and rewarding one to remember. The family bakers and friends had been cooking all week to provide a table full of refreshments and delicious cakes, scones, bara brith and chocolate brownies, it really was a heavenly site and one that was welcomed by the walkers on their return from the walks. RSPB wildlife enthusiast, Richard Knight, kindly gave 2 guided walks, a relaxing stroll through the lowland fields in the morning and a more strenuous hike up the Upland walk in the afternoon. Sightings of Sandmartins, Redstarts, Common Linnets, Yellow Hammers, Goldfinches, Common Mallard drake, Red Kites, Buzzards, Green-veined butterfly and the Orange-tip butterfly, Tadpoles and Toadspawn were all spotted by the walkers. Children enjoyed their outdoor adventure by filling in the Activity Sheets, taking part in the Treasure Hunt and the Sweetie Jar competition. The raffle table was full with prizes, kindly donated by friends and local businesses, which was very generous and popular with everyone on the day.
We would like to thank all those that helped to make the day such a successful one and a rewarding one for two very deserving charities.
