Our Stargazing Experience Package blends cosy lodge or glamping accommodation with guided stargazing sessions, dark skies photography, and the option to add an Astro Cycling Adventure through the Cambrian Mountains.

Dark Skies Night Photography

As part of your stay at Lon Lodges, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the wonder of the night sky with Dafydd Wyn Morgan, one of Wales’ most passionate night sky photographers. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced in astrophotography, Dafydd offers engaging and accessible sessions under the dark skies of Cwm Elan, just a short distance from your accommodation.


His workshops are a chance to both witness and photograph the Milky Way, planets, and constellations, all set against the dramatic landscapes of the Cambrian Mountains. 


Dafydd’s deep knowledge of the Elan Valley Dark Sky Park, paired with his warm and enthusiastic approach, creates an unforgettable experience for guests of all ages. His passion for capturing the beauty of Wales by night is infectious, and his local insight means you’ll explore some of the most awe-inspiring viewpoints under the stars.

The Alyn Wallace Big 5 – The ultimate night photography must do in Cwm Elan. Visit five iconic locations with Dafydd and Sorcha as they tell you stories of their time with world-renowned astro photographer Alyn who passed away in 2024 at the age of 34. You’ll follow in Alyn’s footsteps and photograph at places he visited during his time visiting the Valley. The ‘astro-marathon’ will end at the Alyn Wallace Art Installation. The perfect place to end an incredible night out.

£150 per person, maximum group of 6.

• Each participant will need his/her own camera gear,
• as well as a reasonable understanding of how to use the manual settings on the camera.
• Alternatively, if this is a 1:1 session, camera gear can be loaned for a small fee.
• Each participant will receive a special limited-edition gift on the night.

Guided Stargazing

For those who want to deepen their understanding of the night sky, Rob Davies offers a variety of stargazing experiences at Lon Lodge’s doorstep. Based in the Cambrian Mountains near the Elan Valley International Dark Sky Park and the Cambrian Mountains Astro Trail, Rob provides expert-led sessions that bring the cosmos closer than ever. Whether you’re a first-time stargazer or already fascinated by astronomy, Rob’s relaxed and informative approach ensures a night to remember.



Choose from three unique experiences:



Stargazing with a Telescope (90 minutes)

Settle into a cosy evening under the stars as Rob guides you through seasonal constellations and celestial highlights using a smart telescope. From nebulae to star clusters, you’ll see the night sky in incredible detail, and take home digital photos from the session, including a portrait of your group beneath the stars.

Star-Hopping Experience (60 minutes)
Want to learn how to navigate the night sky? Rob will teach you how to ‘star-hop’ between constellations using a laser pointer, giving you the skills and confidence to continue stargazing on your own. A group photo under the stars is included.

Night Walk Under the Stars (Up to 4 hours)

For the more adventurous, this night-time walk through the Cambrian Mountains combines hiking with stargazing. Covering 3–4 miles, the experience includes a short celestial tour during the walk. This option is best suited to fit and active guests over the age of 12.

Astro Cycling Adventure


If you’re looking for a stargazing experience with a twist, our Astro Cycling Adventure experience is a one-of-a-kind way to explore Mid-Wales after dark. Led by qualified local mountain bike guide Pippa Boss, this off-road night-time journey takes you through the Cwm Elan International Dark Sky Park, pedalling beneath a sky filled with stars.



In collaboration with astrophotographer and night sky expert Dafydd Wyn Morgan, the ride begins at dusk and follows quiet trails alongside the Elan Valley reservoirs. As the sun sets and the stars start to appear, Dafydd shares fascinating insights into the constellations above and offers tips on capturing the night sky with your camera.

No advanced cycling experience is needed, just a sense of adventure, a bike with off-road tyres (MTB, gravel, hybrid or e-bike), lights, and a helmet. It’s a magical way to experience the Cambrian Mountains like never before! Combining gentle exploration, astronomy, and the peaceful beauty of the Welsh wilderness after dark. Under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
